東京都渋谷区にあるインターナショナルプレスクール＆幼稚園、Reggio School of Tokyoと連携し、Oak年長クラス19名の園児が来訪しました。本学、造形表現学科の協力を得て、高田三平教授の指導のもと陶芸を通して交流しました。 一か月の時を経て出来上がりを手にした子どもたちは感動を言葉にしていたと聞いています。
子どもたちは粘土を使って自由に自分のアイデアや感情を形にすることができ、自己表現の場として提供することができました。
今回ボランティアとして関わった学生たちからは、
「多様なバックグラウンドを持つ子どもたちとの英語での交流は貴重な経験になりました。子供たちが作るものがコップやお皿だけではなく、人、ピラミッド、ケーキなど多岐に渡っていることがとてもおもしろいと思って観させていただきました。」
「子ども達の発想の豊かさには驚かされるばかりでした。それぞれが思い思いの作品を楽しそうに、いきいきとした表情で作り上げていく姿はとても見応えがありました。子ども達が自由な発想の中で、表現の可能性を制限されることなく制作に取り組める環境が子ども達にとってとても大切だということを改めて感じることができました。」 という声が聞かれました。
短い時間の中での活動でしたが、学生たちは子どもたちがレッジョエミリアアプローチをもとに自ら考え、表現する探究活動を目の当たりにするとともに、保育士が英語をコミュニケーションツールとして使いながら、 子どもの発想力から新しい価値観を学ぶ姿勢、接し方、寄りそい方を体感できたことで、本学学生にもたくさんの気づきをもたらしたワークショップとなりました。

In cooperation with the Reggio School of Tokyo, an international preschool and kindergarten in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, 19 students from the Oak class aged 5-6 visited the university!
Professor Sampei Takada, a ceramic artist and educator in the Department of Art and Design at Tokyo Kasei University, interacted with the Reggio children through pottery making. The children expressed their excitement when they got their hands on their finished products a month after the event.
The children were able to give form to their ideas and feelings using clay. It offered an opportunity to develop self-expression and fine motor skills. The student volunteers commented that:
“It was a valuable experience for me to interact with children from diverse backgrounds in English. It was very interesting to see how the children made not only cups and plates, but a range of things such as people, pyramids, and cakes.”
“I was amazed at the richness of the children's ideas. It was very impressive to see how the children were enjoying themselves and creating with lively expressions on their faces. I was reminded of how important it is for children to have an environment in which they can create freely and without being restricted in their possibilities for expression.”
Although the activities were held for a short time, our students were happy to have witnessed exploratory activities based on the Reggio Emilia Approach, where the children think and express themselves. Our students have experienced how schoolteachers learn new values from children's imagination, how to interact with them, and how to bond with them, while using English as a communication tool.
